Dr. Elizabeth Squirell
MD, MSc, FRCPC · Gastroenterologist
Dr. Elizabeth Squirell is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Gastroenterology, Department of Medicine, at Queen's University, and a gastroenterologist at Kingston Health Sciences Centre in Kingston, Ontario.
Her training took her across Canada. She earned her medical degree at the University of Calgary, then completed her internal medicine residency and a Master's in Clinical Epidemiology at Memorial University of Newfoundland. She returned to Queen's for her gastroenterology residency, followed by an advanced fellowship in inflammatory bowel disease at the University of British Columbia.
Her clinical practice focuses on inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis), especially where IBD meets women's health and pregnancy, while keeping an interest in general gastroenterology. She uses intestinal ultrasound as a non-invasive way to monitor IBD at the bedside.
Her research uses population-level epidemiology to understand the long-term realities of living with IBD, with a focus on preventive care and pregnancy outcomes.
